THE  Neufchef museum

A guided tour led by former iron miners allows visitors to walk along a mile long underground cave. This walk brings back to life the 150 years of iron mining in Lorraine and the story of its iron miners « the yellow faces » as they called here.

After this walk, you will complete your knowledge of the iron mining world with the visit of the three permanent exhibition inside the museum building.
Your visit will end with a pleasant film made with black and white archive images taken at different periods in history and showing you the iron miners at work.

From Metz Exit « Hayange », follow town centre, the museum is then signed.
From Longwy exit « Hayange-Nilvange » follow « Hayange » , the museum is then signed.

A playground with various attractions as well as a picnic area, is available a few steps away from the museum. The museum is located in a exceptionnally green wood and forest.

Discover an industrial temple
A visit to the Museum of the Iron Mines of Aumetz, with an animated audio guide, is a time of intense emotion that allows for an understanding of the history of pit mines, daily life there and the different jobs of the miners in these original mines.
A great novelty: access to the mine shaft entrance for staff at the base of the head-frame.
In the waiting area for miners waiting to take the cage down into the mine, you will relive the boarding manoeuvres.
This new space, which remained in obscurity for 30 years, is decorated with a unique panorama of the miners.
On top of visiting all of the surface buildings of the Bassompierre Aumetz mine, you will discover:
The head-frame, a unique vestige of the Lorraine iron mines, registered in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments. Access to the upper platform that offers visitors a unique view of the Pays Haut (35 meters high).
Its former forge in its original state, as well as the impressive room containing the hoist.
You will also find the machines displayed, which will be animated before your eyes; compressors, an explosives manufacturing chain, a loom, the wick and a real V1 flying bomb dating back to theSecond World War.
A screening of a film archive, on the history of pit mines, will complete the visit.
