NEUFCHEF MUSEUM
A guided tour led by former
iron miners allows visitors to along a mile long underground cave. This walk
brings back to life the 150 years
of iron mining in Lorraine and the story of its iron miners « the yellow
faces » as they called here.
The visitor will experience the daily working life of the first iron miners
who used the pick and the hammer walking through the caves,
the visitor will see how the working conditions improved as more
modem tools and machines were introduced into the gallery thanks
to compressed air, electricity and finally diesel.
After this walk, you will complete your knowledge of the iron mining world
with the visit of the three permanent exhibition inside the museum building.
One room is devoted to the geology of the iron field, another one focuses
on the transformation of ore in the steel industry and the last one shows
the every day life of the miner and his family in the mining housing estates.
Your visit will end with a pleasant film made with black and white archive
images taken at different periods in history and showing
you the iron miners at work.
